Crews taking to the water

Day 2 of The 1851 Cup has been postponed due to stormy weather on the Solent. At this hour a frontal system is clearing the area. The winds are southwesterly between 12 and 15 knots, but are expected to shift to the northwest and become puffy and shifty.

The first warning signal for the day was planned for now, but instead the crews are planning to dock out around 1530. The first warning signal isn’t expected before 1615 hours.

The weather update from team meteorologist Chris Bedford: The front is going through Southampton right now, it’s visible out the window. The sailors are waiting for that to clear. Then the wind should veer right from W when they first get out to NW and very shifty and puffy 12-22 knots.
